What do you mean by 'unworn'?

An “unworn” watch means that the watch has been recently purchased new and purchased by us without having been worn. Unworn watches have intact protective stickers and seals (where such wear seals are utilised by the manufacturer), the manufacturer's original warranty and the paperwork is present.

Can the bracelet be adjusted to fit my wrist?

YES, we are a full service Jewellery store in the UK. Our resident jeweller can adjust the bracelet to your wrist size. You can visit the store and we can do this while you wait or if you can email your wrist measurement when you place your order we can do this for you. To measure your wrist the best technique (if you wear a watch already) is to roll some paper inside your existing watch with the clasp closed and to tell us the measurement in cm. We will size accordingly, please call for any advice.

Do we accept watches in part exchange?

Iconic Watches/ Ancient & Modern Jewellers Ltd have always been extremely keen to offer our customers the option of part-exchange or even direct purchase of watches and we are renowned for our fair valuations. If you have a watch to part-exchange please feel free to call/e-mail us with the full details and we will endeavour to get back to you with a part-exchange valuation within 24 hours.

Will I get MORE for my watch as a part-exchange?

No, we operate a very honest open policy with watches, we don't try to disguise what we are actually allowing you for your watch in part-exchange. As a rule we are happy to buy your watch as a straight purchase at the SAME price we would be willing to offer in part-exchange. We have this fair and transparent policy as all our internet offerings are priced extremely competitively with a low profit margin attached and consequently we don't disguise the true value of your watch in the deal.

What if the watch doesn't have the manufacturer's original paperwork?

New unworn watches come with manufacturer paperwork - there is rarely a legitimate and legal reason for an unworn watch to come without paperwork (such watches are usually stolen/illegal non VAT paid imports from outside the EC). In Pre-worn watches this situation does not necessarily apply - once the watch's original warranty has expired the paperwork only serves to show where and when the watch was originally purchased. The majority of our pre-owned watches, however, DO come with paperwork. All our watches are authenticated via verification of serial numbers and a comprehensive inspection of the case, the movement and the bracelet. We provide an insurance valuation in the purchaser's name for ALL watches that we supply without the manufacturer's original paperwork. This valuation acts as a certificate of authenticity, giving you complete peace of mind that the watch is 100% genuine. As a member of the National Association of Gold Smiths we are accredited insurance valuers.

Is it possible for you to hold a watch for me for a few days?

We are happy to hold watches if a customer needs time to arrange full payment/arrange a visit to the shop to collect goods. This deposit is normally 20% of the value of the goods. Please get in touch with us if you would like to reserve a watch or make other arrangements.

How will my goods be delivered and how long will it take for them to arrive?

For UK mainland deliveries ALL items are sent using Fedex insured delivery. This service guarantees delivery next day after items are despatched. All items sent in this manner are FULLY INSURED UP TO THEIR FULL VALUE under Ancient and Modern's own insurance policy and we are one of the few online businesses able to offer this facility. Fedex offers a tracking facility via www.fedex.com and we aim to dispatch all items within 48 hours of payment clearing our bank account. All non UK deliveries within Europe will be sent FULLY INSURED via Fedex International Signed For service at a modest cost of only £50.

I live outside the EC - will it be possible for me to reclaim the VAT?

Most of our watch and jewellery is purchased under the VAT margin scheme. Unfortunately for customers not resident in the EC goods bought under this scheme are NOT eligible for VAT (we simply pay VAT on our profit margin). Some of our suppliers ARE able to supply brand new goods to us on a full VAT invoice so please don't hesitate to contact us to discuss this

What are your hours of business?

We open 6 days a week from the hours of 9-5. Our phone lines are also in operation outside these hours and we are happy to help most evenings, just please feel free to give us a call.

Our shop premises is happy to accept visitors and we welcome customers to view our in stock collection, speak to us about watches and to bring in part exchanges. Our in house jeweller and servicing department can also answer any queries.

What happens if my watch stops working?

If your watch for some reason stops working, depending on the scenario below we can assist you in getting it repaired.

Watch within manufacturers warranty - if you have purchased a watch from us that has manufacturers warranty left on it, the watch is covered by an international warranty. This entiltes the owner of the watch to take the watch and warranty card to the nearest Authorised dealership. The dealership owe a duty of care and will investigate the problem and get the watch serviced by their in house repair team, or if it is a serious fault will send the watch back to the manufacturers for you. The good news is that when the watch is returned it is normally with a topped up warranty.

Watches with an Ancient & Modern warranty - if you purchased one of our pre-owned watches it is covered by our 1 year warranty. A customer can send the watch back to us in the event of failure and we will arrange the repair of the watch by the relevant service center (depending on the brand). We have over 60 years experience and an in house repair shop. We also use experts depending on the brand and complications.

My watch has run out of warranty and it is losing time, don’t worry we can help you, we have an in house watch repair center and we are capable of doing most watch repairs and servicing watches. If you have a rare complication we also have several experts capable of servicing highly advanced watches. We are here every step of the way to offer our advice and support throughout any servicing.
