Blancplain Watches | founded in 1735 by Jehan-Jaques Blancpain claims that it is the world's oldest watchmaking brand based in Villeret. In the 1920s it teamed up with John Harwood and began marketing the Automatic Wrist Watch. After family ownership ended in the 1950s the Fifty fathoms watch was launched at the request of the "combat swimmers" in th e french navy 1953. The watch was proven by one of the most famous divers of the date, Jacques-Yves Cousteau. However in the 1970s the brand suffered with the quartz explosion, thus causing the firm to sell to Jacques Piguet.
