In recent years it has become a trend for women to wear men’s watches. Not only large sizes, but also watches with a masculine design. Still, we noticed that a lot of women love to buy watches with a more feminine look and feel to them. Perhaps larger diameters than – let’s say – 10-15 years ago, but unmistakably ladies’ watches. Just like men’s watches, the sporty looking watches are winning turf today.
We generated a top 5 list of ladies’ watches, from various watch brands. You will see that it includes a number of sports watches, but still with feminine looks and modest sizes. Other watches are more formal or at least great all-round timepieces that will fit any occasion (and outfit).
The Lady-Datejust is a special collection, besides the regular Datejust models. The Lady-Datejust is the more feminine version of the Day-Date. It comes only in precious metals or at least stainless steel combined with a precious metal (Rolesor). All Lady-Datejust models have a 28mm diameter, which makes it a ladies’ watch only. Where the regular Datejust also has sizes of 36mm and 41mm and suitable for both men and women, there is no misunderstanding that the Lady-Datejust is indeed for a lady.
A wide variety of dials and bezels can be picked, with or without diamonds. There are three bracelet options, the rolesor models come with a sporty Oyster bracelet where the full gold models come with either a Jubilee bracelet or the President bracelet. The platinum Lady-Datejust is only available with the President bracelet. The calibre 2236 movement is chronometer certified and Rolex even guarantees it runs between -2 and +2 seconds a day on average. As of 2015 all Rolex watches come with a 5 year warranty.
2.Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M ladies
Available in 34mm and 38.5mm and in a variety of combinations of 18 ct red gold, yellow gold, stainless steel, steel & gold. All dials are mother-of-pearl and set with or without diamonds. The Aqua Terra 150 Ladies’ is available with a leather strap or metal (stainless steel, gold or stainless steel & gold) bracelet. The larger sized Aqua Terra (38.5mm) comes with the famous in-house calibre 8500 (or 8501 for the gold models) and the smaller 34mm watch comes with a calibre 8520 (8521 for the gold models) movement. The movements in the gold watches also have a gold rotor. These movements are all protected to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss, so these watches aren’t bothered by the magnetic closing of a purse for example. This Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M ladies’ is a versatile watch and can go from sporty (in stainless steel and with bracelet) to being a dress watch (in gold with alligator strap).
3.TAG Heuer Aquaracer
TAG Heuer is a brand that has always been connected to sports. The Aquaracer is their collection that relates to diving and swimming. This collection is available to both men and women. For ladies, the Aquaracer comes in 27mm, 32mm and 35mm. The variations are endless, including a full ceramic (in white or black) and half-ceramic (ceramics and stainless steel, or combined with gold). The same goes for the dials and bezels, they are available in different materials and can also be diamond-set. TAG Heuer uses both quartz and automatic movement for their Aquaracer Ladies’ collection. If you are a sporty type and need a rugged watch, the all stainless steel version might be a wise choice. If you want to have a fashionable piece, the white ceramic piece could be on your shortlist. The Aquaracer only comes with bracelets, there are no versions on rubber or leather strap.
4.Breitling Chronomat 38
Breitling is best known for their large and rugged pilot watches but they also know their way with ladies’ watches. This Breitling Chronomat 38 is based on the famous Chronomat collection, but now in a very modest 38mm diameter. With a bezel made of tungsten carbide, the risk of scratching it on bracelets and other jewellery is reduced to a minimum. The Chronomat 38mm comes with either a stainless steel bracelet, leather strap or rubber strap. Breitling offers this ladies’ Chronomat 38mm in different dial colours (or mother-of-pearl) and with or without diamonds on the hour markers. There’s also the possibility to have it with a diamond-set bezel. A versatile watch that can be worn during all kinds of occasions. The chronograph movement is a self-winding Breitling calibre 13 with 42 hours of power reserve.
If you want something a little smaller the Colt 33 offers a 200m sports ladies watch. This again is a dual purpose watch, extremely practical and durable but also in polished stainless offering a dress appeal.
5.Patek Philippe Twenty-4
Patek Philippe also has their share of ladies watches available, including complications, grand complications and a more modest size Nautilus and Aquanaut. However, one of their most feminine timepieces is probably the Twenty-4. It was originally launched in 1999, and Patek aimed with this bracelet watch at the modern and active woman. It is available in all stainless steel and in gold. The gold version comes either with a gold bracelet or a satin strap. This rectangular watch has a modest size of 25 x 30mm. The case can be set with 36 diamonds and the dial is also available with 10 diamonds on the hour markers. The Patek Philippe Twenty-4 is only available with a quartz movement. It is a very elegant timepiece, but still sportier than the Calatrava for ladies and other ladies’ models with leather straps. If it isn’t sporty enough, there are still a couple of Nautilus and Aquanaut models to choose from in ladies’ sizes.
