One of the new models that are part of the popular Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean collection is the Master Chronometer Titanium. Available with an in-house Co-Axial Chronograph movement or as a regular three-hands only model. Both models come either on a matching anthracite colored rubber strap or a titanium bracelet.
Basically, there are four references for this speciflc Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Titanium model:
Three-hands only (caliber 8900) with rubber strap: 188.8.131.52.99.001
Three-hands only (caliber 8900) with Ti bracelet: 184.108.40.206.99.001
Chronograph (caliber 9900) with rubber strap: 220.127.116.11.99.001
Chronograph (caliber 9900) with Ti bracelet: 18.104.22.168.99.001
What these four references have in common, is that they have a beautiful dial made of titanium, to match the case and bracelet or strap. The caliber 8900 model with three hands measures 43.5mm in diameter, making it a very wearable watch for most men out there. The caliber 9900 chronograph version has a diameter of 45.5mm. Even though it is a titanium watch, the weight is quite substantial. This watch is not for the faint hearted.
The caliber 8900 and 9900 movements used for these references are, of course, derivatives of the caliber 8500 and 9300 movements. The new movements are being Master Chronometer certified (by an independent third party organization by the name of METAS) and are basically tested towards stricter guidelines for anti-magnetism and accuracy. These watches are not only water resistant up to 600 meters, they can also withstand high magnetism fields (up to > 15,000 gauss). With today’s electronics around us (think security gates, hospital equipment, kitchen appliances etc), this is becoming a severe issue for many manufacturers of mechanical watches. Omega found a solution in using special alloys for the balance spring (amongst others) which will do the trick. Other brands seek out in specific case designs that are anti-magnetic. However, Omega’s solution allowed them to have a display back installed, so you can admire the beautifully decorated in-house calibers.
Besides the new movements and titanium dials, this model also features a ceramic bezel (silicon nitride ceramic) merged with orange rubber (for the diving scale). This has been done using Omega’s LiquidMetal technology. An innovative method to mix ceramic with other materials.
In short, these new metallic looking Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M models in titanium are breathing Omega’s new direction of designing and creating innovative luxury watches, packed with technical solutions.
